North St, Bristol
This sculpture was scaled up from one of the well-known dinosaur puzzles of our childhoods, to a formidable size. I scanned the puzzle template, vectorised the image, scaled up and laser cut it into sheets of birch ply. I called upon the very talented local Bristol kids to come to Toyville and draw their own dinosaurs. I abstractly collaged their illustrations onto the sculpture, using a projector to trace the outlines of the drawings and paint them in.
I used the colour palette of one particular drawing as a basis for the whole piece, to bring the bones to life. A steel sub-structure was created to provide addition support to the skeleton to make it suitable to handle the elements, and it was finished in UV protection oil to protect the discolouration of the part, and then finished In a marine varnish.
