Zero Green
The basis for this project was to create a piece that encapsulated the plight of zero green, as well as being a true depiction of our city. I chose the cormorants of Bristol harbour which are well-known and admired by many. They are also very relevant to the issues combatted by businesses like zero green, with sea birds being a species that suffer immensely from the impact of single use plastics on our eco-systems.
each individual feather has been crafted from street found timber from the surrounding area, and cured using the traditional Japanese method “Sho Sugi Ban”. the charring fossilises the wood, removing the moisture, and protecting it from the elements.
The wood was then sanded back to highlight the dark charred grain, which resembles the vanes of a feather.
